Caramel Pretzel Cookie Bar

Sweet. Salty. Absolutely no restraint. We've built this one on a dense, soft cookie base loaded with chunks of milk chocolate, then layered sticky golden caramel over the top with cornflakes running right through it. Salted pretzels and little dark chocolate drops go on last. It's the kind of bake people point at through the glass.

The base is a thick, soft cookie dough studded with chunks of milk chocolate, and sitting on top of that is a thin layer of crunchy golden cornflake caramel, scattered evenly with salted pretzels and small dark chocolate callets.

It smells of warm caramel and sweet baked cookie, with the chocolate sitting just underneath.

Caramel, cookie dough and chocolate do most of the talking, and then the salted pretzels turn up with a savoury note that keeps the whole thing from tipping into too sweet.

The cookie base is dense and soft, the chocolate chunks give it some bite, the caramel layer manages sticky and crunchy at the same time, and the pretzels and callets add a final snap on top.
